The Los Angeles Chargers have hired former Michigan head coach, Jim Harbaugh, following an impressive 2023 season where Harbaugh led the Wolverines to an undefeated season, Big Ten title, and most importantly the program’s first National Title since 1997.

Conversations with the people closest to him say Harbaugh still has a desire to win a Super Bowl. With the Chargers having another bust season, along with a franchise QB ready to win, the hiring of Harbaugh was an easy decision — even with Michigan’s desire to make Harbaugh the highest-paid college football coach in history with a guaranteed contract of 6-years/$11.5 million annual salary that included performance incentives.

The current NCAA allegations looming over the program made Harbaugh want an extra layer of job security with Michigan. Harbaugh’s main fear was facing was the ‘firing for cause’ aspect of the contract. Harbaugh requested that the school’s current athletic director not solely have the ability to fire him “for cause”. Per sources, Harbaugh instead suggested that a panel comprised of three members determine his outcome if any NCAA violations were to be handed down.

Future of the Franchise

Now that the Los Angeles Chargers have found their coach, they are eager to instill the culture and success that Harbaugh brings with him. Harbaugh is poised to hit the ground running, benefiting from fewer roster issues compared to other new head coaches.

With his background as a former NFL quarterback and exceptional ability to maximize player potential, Harbaugh’s arrival sets the stage for remarkable success. The positive impact of Harbaugh’s coaching on Justin Herbert’s ongoing growth and the team’s overall performance is exciting.
